The need for quality, effective, consumer driven services for individuals with a dual diagnosis of mental retardation and mental illness has never been greater. Project Janus seeks to meet this need through a 10 hour, training curriculum designed both to build on existing competencies and to equip the provider with the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective in multiple areas of service delivery. Participants will receive a certificate of completion (and CEU’s if required) after each curriculum components. Following the completion of the entire 10 hr. program, a “Janus Certified Provider” certificate will be awarded.
Curriculum Components: (10 hrs.)
Understanding Dual Diagnosis: 3.5 hrs • Mental Illness (Including Schizophrenia, Depression, Bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders and PTSD) • Behavior Therapy for Beginners-1.5 hrs. (Examines behavioral issues from a functional analysis viewpoint) • Psychoactive Medications • Social Skill Training
Effective Communication: -1.5 hrs. Covers proven techniques to increase effectiveness in understanding and being understood by someone with coexisting psychiatric and cognitive disabilities.
Personality Disorders-1.5 hr. Emphasizing Borderline and Antisocial Personality disorders.
Crisis Management-1.5 hr. With emphasis on capacity building and preventative strategies.
Stress Management-1 hr. Covers practical tips for reducing and dealing with the unique stressors faced by mental health/DD care providers.
Best Practice Elements-1 hr. Reviews the elements required for the provision of quality therapeutic, habilitative and residential services to the dually diagnosed. |
